Friday Favourites: Things I’ve Enjoyed Lately

Hi friends! I’m linking up with Andrea and Erika to share a few things I’ve enjoyed lately. Yes, it’s time for Friday Favourites, and I’m excited to be here, and even more excited that you’ve stopped by! Thanks 😊

Okay, so let’s rewind to last Friday because I didn’t get around to sharing last week’s Friday Favourites, and this definitely makes the list.

Greek Night

We had a staff dinner last Friday at a Greek restaurant called Meet The Greek. Cute name, huh?

The food was good, and the atmosphere was next level.

The band played the bouzouki all night, and then the dancing started. Random people got up and did solos on chairs, at their tables, and then once the Zorba came on, that was it. We couldn’t stay seated any longer, and a bunch of us got up and joined in.

Then the waiters came out and started throwing white serviettes around like confetti. At some point, the manager or owner, or possibly just someone with the required level of clearance, came out and smashed some plates. Oh my gosh, talk about a fun night!

I love Greek dancing, but I need to practice. It started slow, and then it went so fast, you know the one I mean? The one you see in all the fun Greek movies. And when we joined in on Friday night, holding hands as they do in a circle (a very big circle), I was trying so hard to get the steps right with my two left feet. I’m way better at freestyling it on the dance floor.

We played some music in the playground at work this Tuesday and, of course, we had to revisit Friday night with some Greek dancing. We played the Zorba on Spotify, and the kids thought it was a hoot seeing the teachers dance. I love that about working in early childhood. You can be as silly as you want and it’s all okay. Imagine doing that spontaneously in an office? Haha!

My lovely Greek colleague gave me a dance lesson around the sandpit. Step, step, kick, kick, then right, right, right, kick, kick… or something like that. Opa!

Educators’ Day

Wednesday was Early Childhood Educators’ Day, and at work our kind director surprised us with some goodies. We got to choose two things, one sweet and one stationery item.

things I've enjoyed lately:Peanut M&M's and notebook from Educators' Day

I picked my favourite peanut M&M’s and a notebook. It was a nice surprise in the middle of the week.

Dinner at Hubert

We went to Hubert for Steve’s belated birthday. I’d originally booked it for his birthday week, on his night off. But his work got a bit crazy, and there was a chance he’d have to work that night, so it was just easier to postpone. They charge $80 per person if you cancel, amend or reschedule with less than 24 hours’ notice, yikes!

hings I've enjoyed lately: Restaurant Hubert in Sydney

It was such a great night and completely exceeded my expectations. I mean completely! And I have to thank my fun work friend who encouraged me to go and said there was no way I’d be disappointed. She was 100% right! We loved the food, the atmosphere, the whole experience. It was just amazing.

We started with oysters, duck parfait and baguette.

There was also a live jazz band playing all night.

For our main meals, we shared a melt-in-your-mouth beef bourguignon and Murray cod with the most delicious sauce, along with bitter leaf salad and pommes Anna. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted such an amazing variety of dishes. EVER!

And then we ordered this little dessert with a very complicated name I can’t remember. It was perfect for sharing, as it was very rich and creamy.

What I Wore

Last week I wrote a post about some winter fashion ideas and how putting together an outfit for a special night is all part of the fun. Well, I was excited to finally wear the top that I bought in Singapore earlier this year. As it was winter here, I hadn’t had a chance to wear it yet.

For our night at Hubert, I’d planned a winter outfit, but would you believe the second day of spring turned out to be so warm it felt like summer? So I ditched the winter option and went for the sleeveless top instead.

I can’t remember such a complete change in weather so early in the season. Normally, we have to wait weeks for even one slightly warmer day. I’m certainly not complaining though. It was so nice to have some warm weather!

A Very Useful Freebie

My youngest son Sam came home from work with a slow cooker. He works casually at a kitchenware store, and when customers return items, staff members can take them home for free if they want them. I’m not sure why this slow cooker was returned because it works perfectly. But what a win for us! The best part is that it doubles as a rice cooker and triples as a steamer.

My old slow cooker died years ago, and I never bought a new one. My rice cooker was also on the way out and would sometimes just decide, “No, I’m not cooking tonight,” and switch itself off, leaving us with crunchy rice. Bleh!

And Now It’s Friday

And hooray, it’s Friday!

It’s Friday afternoon over here, and I’m feeling a little like this.

things I've enjoyed lately: tired girl image

It’s been a big week, and today we had a special Father’s Day event at preschool. It was a lovely time with a good turnout, but these events sure do wear me out.

Tomorrow we’re heading to a cafe in Como for an early Father’s Day celebration because Father’s Day is Sunday and Steve is working. But since he doesn’t finish work until 3 am Saturday morning, that might not work out either. So we may end up celebrating on Monday instead.

Haha! It all sounds a bit complicated, so it’s a good thing we’re flexible.

Wishing you all a wonderful and restful weekend…zzzzzzzz

PakarPBN

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.

In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.

The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.

Woman Becomes Internet Hero With Clever Way To Avoid “Being Bothered By Men” At The Club

A woman has found an unusual way to make unwanted attention at a club disappear, and the internet is calling her strategy both hilarious and heartbreaking.

Instead of repeatedly turning down men who approached her on nights out, My Linh came up with a far more creative visual solution.

The stunt has sparked a bigger conversation about the lengths some women say they feel forced to go to just to enjoy a night out without being bothered.

Highlights

  • The internet had plenty to say about the unusual tactic a woman came up with that left men backing off.
  • From fake wedding rings to “mythical boyfriends,” women are sharing increasingly creative ways to avoid unwanted attention.
  • What looks like a hilarious club prank has sparked a more serious debate over why women feel they need such tricks to be left alone.

One person reacted, “That’s an extreme privacy filter, but I get the logic for a night out.”

Linh, a content creator and SFX makeup artist, found herself dealing with men who kept approaching her even when she didn’t want the attention.

Rather than repeatedly explaining that she was not interested, she came up with a much stranger solution.

She created a set of temporary prosthetic rotten teeth that made her smile look dramatically crooked, oversized, and unattractive.

She later shared footage of herself wearing the dentures while out at a club, turning the bizarre transformation into a joke about unwanted male attention.

The original clip was shared in March, with Linh captioning it, “When the guy bothering you in the club finally leaves you alone.”

She then removed the fake dentures, revealing a perfectly normal, healthy-looking smile underneath.

The unusual tactic struck a chord with viewers, many of whom saw the dentures as more than just an SFX makeup trick.

One person wrote, “Female defense strategies are getting more and more creative.”

Another commenter added, “It’s awful that a person has to do something like that to try to keep men away because they don’t respect anyone, sorry diva, but at least you were creative.”

“Women deserve to have fun in public without feeling watched or bothered,” remarked a third.

Another comment read, “It’s so sad we have to buy these kinda stuff, just to protect ourselves.”

Research suggests that many women regularly feel unsafe or uncomfortable in nightclubs and bars

The comments ultimately turned the viral clip into something of a debate over personal boundaries, with some viewers questioning why women are expected to develop elaborate strategies just to be left alone.

Research has found that unwanted s**ual attention and harassment can be significant issues in clubs and bars for women.

One 2024 study examining nightlife experiences in an English city found that 68.2% of female participants reported having experienced s**ual violence, compared with 33% of male participants.

The reported experiences ranged from persistent cat-calling to unwanted physical touching, g**ping, and grinding.

According to data from The Nighttime Foundation, 74% of women explicitly worry about their general safety during a night out.

For some women, concerns about unwanted attention can influence how they navigate a night out, from staying close to friends and choosing where to stand to finding ways to discourage approaches without escalating a situation.

The bizarre dentures quickly turned into a conversation about the creative ways women avoid unwanted attention

@slaylorbritt Im big on the pig #nyc#subwaycreatures#girlhood♬ Just A Girl – No Doubt

The fake dentures are far from the only unusual tactic women have shared online to avoid unwanted attention in public spaces.

Across TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit, women have discussed everything from oversized “subway shirts” designed to conceal club outfits to deliberately blank or intimidating facial expressions meant to discourage strangers from approaching them.

Others have shared more traditional tricks, such as wearing a fake wedding ring, inventing a “mythical boyfriend,” or pretending to be on an urgent phone call to signal that they are unavailable.

Some have even described intentionally acting strange or discussing deliberately unappealing topics when a persistent stranger refuses to take the hint.

Friends can also get involved, with women describing ways of physically pulling one another back into their group or using a dance-floor maneuver to quietly deflect an unwanted approach.

“Honestly, that’s a whole new level of avoiding unwanted attention. She really came prepared!” one netizen wrote

Trans Woman Leaving Japanese Restaurant Without Paying Because Staff Made Her Feel “Uncomfortable” Prompts Cultural Debate

A trans customer in New York has sparked a fierce online debate, claiming the chefs made her feel so uncomfortable during a meal that she left without paying.

The encounter went viral online, with some claiming the refusal to pay was a justified form of protest.

Others said it seemed like an excuse to get a free meal.

Highlights

  • A trans customer in New York has sparked a fierce online debate for her interaction with the staff.
  • She claimed the chefs made her feel so uncomfortable during a meal that she left without paying.
  • “Teach your staff not to laugh at people and stare at them while they are sitting at a table,” the customer said.
  • Some netizens accused her of creating a scene to get a free meal.

The customer, who appears to identify as transgender, filmed the encounter that took place at a Japanese restaurant in New York.

Some reports claimed the customer was allegedly a transgender woman.

The footage eventually found its way online, triggering a wave of strong reactions.

Starting right in the middle of a tense conversation, the video captured the customer interacting with a staff member at the Nobi Sushi restaurant.

“I feel really uncomfortable… I’ve never done this in my life. I feel very uncomfortable,” the customer was heard telling a female staff member.

The woman seemed apologetic and tried to appease the customer, who seemed distraught.

“I feel really uncomfortable…” the agitated customer repeatedly said as she filmed her interaction with the staff

The diner then declared that they weren’t going to pay for the food and stood up to leave.

“Do you want to call the police or no? Cuz I’m not paying for food…” the diner said.

The calm employee said they weren’t going to involve the police and allowed the agitated customer to walk away.

But even as the diner did so, she continued repeating how “uncomfortable” she was.

“I feel very uncomfortable… Not by you. You did nothing. You’re great,” the diner said before pointing fingers at the staff behind the counter.

“The people behind the counter are very rude. I feel so uncomfortable,” the customer said. “You should teach your staff not to laugh at people and stare at them while they are sitting at a table.”

As she walked out of the door, the customer continued saying, “I feel so uncomfortable” and then panned the camera to the restaurant’s name.

“Teach your staff not to laugh at people and stare at them while they are sitting at a table,” the customer said

The customer’s behavior sparked a heated discussion online, with many accusing the trans diner of unnecessarily creating a scene.

“I,too, will feel uncomfortable if I decide to steal a meal from a restaurant,” one sarcastically said.

“Why is this thief getting away from the scene of the crime?” one asked.

OliLondonTV/X

Many people were confused about whether the restaurant was in Japan. But several others clarified that the joint was actually in New York.

“This is a story from a country where refusing payment by trying to discrimination over gender or race has become normalized,” one wrote online.

Others found it strange that the customer, who seemed to not like the attention, was filming themselves and allowed the incident to garner more attention online.

“Quit whining and filming and calling more attention to your stupid self if you’re uncomfortable!” said another. “You’re just getting out of paying for your food all the while filming!!”

On the other hand, some believed the protest and refusal to pay may have been justified.

“I just can’t quite grasp how incredibly rude it was, how much it was meant to mock and make a fool of someone—it’s beyond me. If it was that malicious, maybe protesting isn’t out of line,” read one comment.

Viewers had mixed reactions to the interaction, with many accusing the customer of causing a scene for a free meal

Google Maps

Another netizen claimed the “staff [was] being unprofessional.

The customer is paying a lot of money for that sushi, and they’re relying on people like he/she to come in there and drop $30 on a plate of food.”

The same social media user insisted that the customer wasn’t trying to get a free meal.

“He/she didn’t dine and dash. He/she refused it because the employees are openly mocking their customer,” they said. “In a free society you should be able to refuse whatever customers you want on whatever grounds, and the customer should have that right in the other direction.”

The commenter believed even the restaurant owner would be unhappy with the employees for probably creating a “permanent loss” to the business because the customer may never come back.

“I’m going to do this every time i want a free meal,” read one comment online
